Surrey Hedgerow Heritage

Hedgerows are vitally important features in the landscape of Surrey, creating a strong sense of place and important habitats for wildlife.

Through July and August 2019, SBSA collaborated with Resources for Change to support the Surrey Wildlife Trust with a £390,000 grant application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.  The Hedgerow Heritage project aimed to involve local communities and young people in surveying, planning and better managing this important natural asset.

Due to staff changes, the Surrey Wildlife Trust had a capacity and expertise gap that we were pleased to be able to fill, drafting both their Activity Plan and Management & Maintenance Plan.

Update (29/11/2019):  We were delighted to discover that the application was successful!  We can’t wait to see Surrey communities engage with their natural heritage and turn around the fortunes of Surrey’s hedgerows!

Update (18/12/2019):  We are pleased to have been reengaged by the Surrey Wildlife Trust to act as their project evaluators over the four years of the scheme.
